Congratulations to our Clients, Dundonald House Care Home, winners of ‘The Care Home Design Award’ at Scottish Care National Care Home Awards 2012, announced at Hilton Hotel, Glasgow, on Friday 23rd November.
The Care Home Design Award is for an individual or company who have demonstrated creativeness and imagination in relation to the design, equipping and utilisation of care premises.
Dundonald House has recently completed a new build care facility adjacent to their existing property, which was also partially refurbished. CRGP provided Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, CDM Coordination and general development input to the project.
Situated on the outskirts of the village of Dundonald in Ayrshire, the client offers a very high standard of care for the elderly, specialising in severe dementia care. The existing facility is rated six (highest) by Care Commission and the client was keen to enhance their facilities with a new building which required being of a very high standard.
The new building is two storeys and provides 42 ensuite bedrooms, 4 lounge/dining rooms, hairdressing salon, café, main kitchen plus 2 satellite kitchen, assisted bathrooms (including a proposed hydrotherapy room) and laundry facility. The internal specifications are high throughout the building. The building’s hot water and heating is provided by ground source heat pumps to meet the 24 hour requirements of the building. Not only does this provide a more environmentally friendly way of meeting these requirements it also qualifies for the government’s RHI support scheme (Renewable Heat Initiative). This should allow a payback of the capital cost of the GSHP plant within 5-7 years and proving far more cost effective than fossil fuel fired heating systems.
